The 9th Annual Meeting of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on February 7-9, 2008.
Particularly appealing in February, a dreary month indeed in many locales, Albuquerque is bathed in 310 days a year of sunshine, decorated in a southwestern palette, surrounded by ancient mountains and accented with Native American art.
Convention activities will begin Thursday afternoon with the Presidential Symposium, which will be followed by a welcome reception. On Friday and Saturday the program will continue with a host of symposia, poster sessions, invited addresses, publisher exhibits, and special events. The cost of lunches is included in the conference registration fee—a distinctive feature of our meeting that will allow us to take a look at the posters and then to picnic with our friends on the floor of the spacious exhibition hall. As in past years, a number of independent pre-conferences will be held during the day on Thursday, February 7th.
During your spare moments, you can explore the southwestern flavored charm of this surprisingly old city. You probably know that Albuquerque is sunny, and that the historic and storied Route 66 runs right past it; but did you know that Albuquerque has more than 16 museums featuring everything from dinosaurs to fine art and local cultures to rattlesnakes? That it was voted one of the top 25 arts destinations in the U.S. by American Style magazine? That you can take a fabulous Art Deco tour through the city, walk through an eel cave at the aquarium, ride in a hot air balloon, explore award-winning wineries, get in a few rounds on top-rated golf courses, or just hang out in Nob Hill, with its eclectic mix of shops, restaurants and clubs? When all this makes you hungry, you can treat yourself to some of the famous local green chile enchiladas. After satisfying that urge, you can explore Greek, Spanish, or Vietnamese, or the many other ethnic cuisines available.
Hope to see you in Albuquerque next February—we can kick back or find our kicks enjoying the best that Personality and Social Psychology has to offer.
